Abelam Karawut Mouth Adornment

Made from knotted hand rolled plant fiber, the figure is decorated with a pair of boar tusks and pigments. A long string is attached to the back section the piece to enable it to be worn around the neck or else the piece is used clenched between the teeth. The Karawut is a symbol of male adulthood, each young boy is presented with one once initiated.
